Consider a single reheat steam power plant as shown in Figure 5.8. The heat source is hot ideal gas with a constant specific heat of 1005 J/kg.K and hot end temperature of 775 K. The minimum temperature difference at heat exchangers is 10 K. The heat sink temperature is 300 K. The turbines and pump operate with an isentropic efficiency of 0.85 and the electro-mechanical efficiency is 0.9. There are no pressure drops in conduits or heat exchangers. Perform the following: (i) determine the Rankine cycle by specifying the best boiling temperature and thermodynamic parameters at all state points; (ii) analyze the cycle based on energy and exergy methods and determine exergy destructions for each component, cycle efficiencies, and BWR; and (iii) determine the mass flow rate of working fluid when the net power generated is 25 MW.
